Ciprian-Matthews has held several top leadership positions within CBS News throughout her career. She served as the Senior VP of News Administration from 2015 to 2018 and as the VP of News from 2011 to 2015.[0] She also held the position of CBS News Foreign Editor from 2006 to 2011, where she oversaw the network's foreign coverage.[1] She has a wealth of experience in journalism, having joined CBS News in 1993 as a Senior Producer for live segments for the morning news.
According to CBS, Ciprian-Matthews will have oversight over all aspects of CBS News, including programs, bureaus, global newsgathering, streaming and digital editorial, standards and practices, special events, politics, elections and surveys, social, the race and culture unit, and CBS News Radio. This appointment comes after Wendy McMahon was named the President and CEO of CBS News and Stations and CBS Media Ventures.
Ciprian-Matthews is an accomplished journalist and has received numerous awards throughout her career.[1] She is an Emmy Award-winning journalist and has been recognized with an Alfred I. duPont Award for CBS News' coverage of the Newtown tragedy.[0] She also received an Edward R. Murrow Award for Overall Excellence for CBS News in 2018.[1] In addition, she was presented with the Presidential Award of Impact by the National Association of Hispanic Journalists in 2016.[1]
The appointment of Ciprian-Matthews comes at a time of transition for CBS News, with Neeraj Khemlani stepping down as co-president of CBS News and stations.[2] Khemlani's departure followed a “360 performance review” focused on his interactions with women and employees of color. Wendy McMahon, who previously co-chaired CBS News and Stations, is expected to take on his responsibilities.
